When planning a new fence, most homeowners want something that’s both beautiful and built to last. Traditional wood fences look great but are often vulnerable over time. That’s where wood on steel posts comes in — a modern fencing solution that combines the warm look of wood with the strength and durability of steel.
At Northwest Fencing, we’ve seen more and more homeowners in Northwestern Ontario choosing this option for its long-lasting performance and curb appeal. Let’s break down what makes wood on steel posts such a smart investment.
A wood on steel fence is exactly what it sounds like: wooden fence panels or boards are installed on top of galvanized steel fence posts instead of traditional wooden posts.
The wood panels provide the natural look and privacy people love.
The steel posts provide the structure and prevent issues like rot, warping, or post replacement.
This hybrid design is changing the way homeowners think about fencing.
Whether you love a classic vertical privacy fence or want something more modern like a horizontal design, wood on steel posts can handle it. Popular pairings include:
Board and Batten fences for full privacy
Horizontal plank fences for a contemporary edge
Good Neighbor fences that look the same on both sides
Decorative top accents (like lattice or caps) for added style
While wood on steel posts may cost a bit more upfront than traditional wood, the long-term savings and reduced maintenance make it one of the best fencing investments you can make. You get:
Peace of mind knowing your fence will last.
The classic beauty of wood with modern strength.
Better value when it comes to property resale.
